The first international match ever to be recorded for the Argentina national football team was when they met with the Uruguay team. The match was played in Montevideo on 16 May 1901. At the event, Argentina recorded a 3–2 win game against their opponent.

However, the match was not considered to be official. The reason was because it was said that the match was not organized by the Football Association of Uruguay but Albion FC in their home field. So, the match that was considered to be their first official game was the one they played with the same Uruguayan team on 20 July 1902. At the event, the Argentine team defeated Uruguay by 6–0.

The first official game recorded that the Nigerian would play was in October 1949. Although, the team is said to have played some unofficial games with other colonies as far back as the 1930s. But then, their first official game took place while they were still a British colony.

It is recorded that the national football team of Argentina appeared at the inaugural match of the FIFA World Cup that took place in 1930. The team performed so well that they made it to the final stage of the tournament, but the unfortunate thing for them was that they lost to the Uruguayan team.

The first time that the Nigerian team would make an appearance at the FIFA World Cup was when the United States hosted the world cup tournament in 1994. But then, it was recorded that they had made much effort to appear in the past. And with their appearance at that time, they could not go past the round of 16.
